Sh2-188 is an unusual planetary nebula located in Cassiopeia. The expanding gas is colliding with ambient gas in the interstellar medium. The nebula is nearly circular in shape but is much brighter in the upper right because the central star is moving rapidly in that direction.
It was discovered at the Simiez observatory in Russia in 1951
